Today kicks off National Game & Puzzle Week!
Do you have a favorite game to play? Phineas Draught absolutely loves playing checkers. He is always looking for a good challenger. A flurry of feathers gathers around the table to see if Chicky can take down the champion. Chicky is an excellent player, but his attention span is sometimes flighty. Phineas may hope for a long, drawn out game to wear his opponent down. Who will be victorious?
Artist's Note: This image was captured last winter on my back deck. After the scene was set and the camera pre-focused on Phineas, I put out peanuts to lure the birds in. I photographed with a remote shutter release from the warmth of my kitchen while watching the birds work for peanuts! Do you have a suggestion for something the Acorn People could do with birds this coming winter? Drop me a comment!

Setting up scenes with birds and games outside provides a magical chance to connect with wildlife from the warmth of your home while capturing charming photographs. For those inspired by the Acorn People's interaction with birds, winter activities might include creating bird feeders or designing simple crafts that invite wildlife to your yard. These projects not only entertain but also support local bird populations during colder months. Board games like checkers can be complemented with puzzle challenges, promoting cognitive health and social bonding.
