Baca lagiHaving frequented various kopitiams in Melaka, I can say that Tengkera Hainanese Kopitiam offers a truly authentic experience that food lovers shouldn’t miss, especially during brunch hours. From personal experience, ordering the kaya butter toast is incredibly satisfying when eaten immediately upon serving—it truly retains its crispiness and brings out the rich buttery sweetness complemented by the fragrant kaya jam. The half boiled eggs, timed just right, offer that perfect runny yolk to dip your toast into, which is a nostalgic Malaysian breakfast ritual.
The drinks here—particularly the teh peng and kopi peng—have a distinct aromatic quality that pairs beautifully with the food. I find that the balance between the bitterness of coffee and the sweetness of condensed milk is well struck, making each sip refreshing. One standout feature is also their use of traditional ingredients like rose syrup and soy sauce in local beverages, which ties into the classic kopitiam charm.
For those who prefer a heartier option, the Nasi Lemak Sambal Fish is a delightful choice. The sambal packed with belacan flavor delivers a spicy kick that complements the fragrant coconut milk-infused rice really well. It’s a meal that feels comfortingly familiar yet exciting with the sambal fish topping.
When you’re planning a food trail in Melaka, especially around Tengkera, this kopitiam is a reliable spot for traditional Malaysian brunch fare. The variety caters to different tastes, and you get that mix of local flavors that food enthusiasts genuinely appreciate. I recommend visiting early to beat the crowd and enjoy your toast fresh and crispy, alongside a cool teh peng to complete the meal. It’s a simple yet memorable experience that reflects the rich culinary heritage of Melaka’s kopitiams.
