This job is not your stereotypical 9-5 gig. It will require extra hours and not enough pay to match the work you are doing! However the reward for protecting the community is 100% worth it. My job consists of preparing cases for trial, being in court 2-3x a week, and having trials & motions hearings. Prosecution is criminal law mixed with litigation and tons of administrative work.
In my jurisdiction, The pay starts at $79k and we get promoted every 18m or so. The best parts about my job are the friends that will last a lifetime, the ability to learn & grow, and all the victims I help along the way.
People forget that prosecutors are public servants, we are over worked and underpaid just like everyone else. We have a crucial and very important role in the criminal justice realm & are held to a high standard.
From the outside looking in, what you think you know about prosecution is probably not the reality. So before you comment something rude, just be mindful that everything you see on TV or hear in the news isn't always how it is in real life. Community service comes in all shapes and sizes.
I would recommend becoming a prosecutor or public defender to recent law school graduates who want to learn how to navigate a court room and manage a heavy work load. It's an experience you'll never be able to replicate in any other field.
