Bringing a new puppy home is one of the most exciting (and slightly overwhelming!) experiences. When I first started preparing for my fur baby's arrival, I quickly realized just how much "stuff for puppies" there was out there! It felt like I needed absolutely everything, but through trial and error, I've learned what's truly essential and what can wait. I’m so excited to share my own journey and what I’ve found to be my must-have puppy supplies. First things first, you'll need the basics to make them feel safe and comfortable. A good quality crate is a game-changer for potty training and providing a safe den. Make sure it's the right size – big enough for them to stand and turn around, but not so big they can use one end as a bathroom. Pair that with a super soft puppy bed and a few cozy blankets, and you’ve got their sleeping arrangements sorted. I also invested in stainless steel food and water bowls because they're easy to clean and durable. Next up, getting outside! A comfortable collar or harness and a sturdy leash are non-negotiable for walks. Don't forget an ID tag with your contact information, just in case. Something I hadn't considered initially but later found incredibly useful, especially for varied weather conditions or long hikes, are protective paw boots. While I haven't tried the kong explorer pet boots red specifically, I’ve learned how important it is to protect their paws from hot pavement, rough terrain, or even winter salt. It's definitely something to consider if you're active outdoors with your pup! Of course, playtime and training are huge parts of puppyhood! I stocked up on a variety of toys – durable chews for teething, interactive puzzle toys to keep their minds busy, and some soft squeaky toys for pure fun. It's amazing how quickly they go through them! And when it comes to training, high-value treats are your best friend. Small, soft, and super tasty training treats make all the difference in capturing their attention and rewarding good behavior. I always have a pouch full of them whenever we're practicing new commands. Don't forget puppy pads and enzymatic cleaner for those inevitable potty accidents – they happen to everyone! Finally, keeping them healthy and clean is key. A soft puppy brush for regular grooming, a gentle puppy shampoo, and nail clippers are some essentials I found helpful. It’s also wise to have a basic puppy first-aid kit on hand. My biggest tip from my own experience is not to buy absolutely everything before your puppy arrives. Get the essentials, then observe your puppy’s personality and preferences. Some puppies love soft toys, others are intense chewers. You'll quickly figure out what "stuff for puppies" truly resonates with your new family member. Enjoy this precious time, it goes by so fast!
