Losing weight with PCOS can be uniquely challenging due to hormonal imbalances and metabolic changes that affect how your body stores fat and responds to diets. My journey began at 187lbs with a PCOS diagnosis, and through consistent effort over 8 months, I managed to reach 125lbs and maintain that weight while controlling PCOS symptoms. What made the difference for me was focusing on body recomposition—not just losing weight but improving muscle mass and reducing fat gradually. This approach helped me avoid the common pitfall of rapid weight loss that can lead to muscle loss and a slowed metabolism. In addition, I found community support in groups focused on GLP-1, a hormone-related approach that some use under medical guidance to manage appetite and insulin sensitivity, which is often affected in PCOS. I highly recommend incorporating a balanced nutrition plan tailored to PCOS, including low glycemic index foods to minimize insulin spikes. Regular physical activity emphasizing strength training supported my muscle retention and metabolic health. Maintenance after weight loss is just as important. For me, consistent monitoring, adapting to my body's feedback, and staying connected to support communities helped sustain my progress. If you’re struggling with PCOS and weight, remember that an individualized, patient approach and support from knowledgeable communities can transform your journey into a sustainable lifestyle change.
