Escape the heat? Visit Yunnan⛰️| i’m back :)

🍋Hello everyone! I’m back on Lemon8 from a long break. Don’t worry, I’m doing much better now and panic attacks’ got nothing on me!

✈️I recently went on a trip to Yunnan, China (with CTC Travel!) and it was such a memorable trip!

Here’s the sequence of places visited:

🚎Kunming - Lijiang - Shangri-La - Dali - Shaxi - Kunming

*it differs from a lot of tour groups as they usually visit Dali first before going to Lijiang! Throughout the trip, we commuted on the travel bus, so no trains taken!

⛰️The average elevation in Yunnan is about 1980m (6500ft) and the weather here in the summer period is generally cooling (temperature ranging from 16-24 degrees). While other parts of China are experiencing record breaking temperatures, Yunnan is one place you can consider to visit to escape from the sweltering heat!

⚠️However, it is recommended for you to slowly acclimatize to the altitude in Kunming first before making your way to attractions such as the Jade Dragon Mountain Scenic Area where the average altitude ranges from 3000m to 4680m (9842ft - 15354ft). You are generally advised to purchase bottled oxygen cylinder to help you with your breathing as the air gets thinner as you ascend.

💁🏻‍♂️: At the start of my trip, our tour guide encouraged us to consume 红景天(Rhodiola rosea), which prevents altitude sickness symptoms. OKAY WHEN I FIRST DRANK IT, IT WAS SO BITTER?? Afterwards there’s this aftertaste in your mouth - which reminded me of Pi Pa Gao(?!)

💭OG’s would know that I love overthinking. Prior to the trip, I was already worrying 101 things that could go wrong. I’ve never been to an altitude that high enough - what if I faint? What if I can’t make it? All the “what ifs”. HOWEVER, IT AIN’T THAT BAD AFTER ALL! Being at 4506m, it was such a surreal experience and it really changed my perspective on overthinking. Why stress over things you have no control of? Those unnecessary stress…🤔

😊I’ve actually documented my full experience on my Youtube channel so just check out my most recent upload! It’s @ nigelmw!

... Read moreYunnan's unique blend of cultures and stunning natural beauty make it a perfect destination for travelers looking to escape the summer heat. Beyond the well-known spots like Kunming and Lijiang, taking time to explore ancient towns such as Shaxi reveals a rich history and authentic local experiences. Altitude can be a challenge for visitors, but preparing with local remedies like Rhodiola rosea (红景天) and bringing oxygen cylinders can make the journey more comfortable. It's also important to acclimate gradually—spending some days in Kunming at around 1900m elevation before ascending to higher places like Jade Dragon Snow Mountain at 4506m helps prevent altitude sickness. CTC Travel offers flexible tour packages that include scenic bus rides through Yunnan’s diverse landscapes, making it easier to soak in the majestic views without the stress of complicated transport. The slower itinerary, visiting places like Dali later in the trip, allows better adjustment and enjoyment. If you're curious about traditional Naxi architecture or want to immerse yourself in Tibetan culture in Shangri-La, Yunnan offers both in an accessible way thanks to well-planned tours. Each destination brings a fresh perspective and a chance to unwind amidst nature's artistry. Personally, the calming climate and changing altitudes taught me to let go of worries and embrace the moment—something every traveler can benefit from. Don’t forget to check out detailed travel videos and tips on local channels to prepare for your own Yunnan adventure.
