Learning to listen to skin, to slow down, to appreciate the little rituals. The soft, intentional work I’m doing now will one day become the glow and confidence I share with clients. Being an esthetician in the making is a journey I want to savor🤍
... Read moreHi everyone! As I continue on my path to becoming a certified esthetician, every day brings new learning and exciting insights into the world of skincare. One area I’ve been particularly focused on during my studies is understanding how to care for specific skin concerns, especially for mature skin and conditions like rosacea. It's truly fascinating to learn how unique everyone's skin is!
Through my training, I've realized that for those with rosacea or sensitive mature skin, gentleness is paramount. When it comes to cleansers, I’ve learned to recommend looking for creamy, hydrating formulas that are free from harsh sulfates, strong fragrances, and aggressive exfoliants. Ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and allantoin are often superstars for soothing and supporting the skin barrier. For scrubs, my instructors emphasize that physical exfoliation can be too harsh for rosacea-prone skin. Instead, I'm discovering the magic of enzyme exfoliants – they gently dissolve dead skin cells without any scrubbing, or very mild chemical exfoliants like lactic acid at low concentrations. It’s all about revealing fresh skin without causing irritation. For our cherished clients in their 60s and 70s, maintaining that skin integrity and hydration is key, and these gentle principles are just as vital, focusing on nourishment and protecting that delicate barrier. Always remember to patch test new products and, if in doubt, consult with a professional esthetician or dermatologist – that's what we're here for!
Beyond clinical knowledge, I'm also starting to explore the exciting possibilities of a career as a freelance esthetician. The idea of setting my own schedule and bringing personalized skincare directly to clients is incredibly appealing! From what I'm learning, freelance estheticians offer a wonderful array of specialized services. We’re not just talking about basic facials; we can provide deeply customized treatments, perhaps incorporating a brightening strawberry jelly mask like the ones I've been practicing with, or even relaxing body treatments. There's also a big demand for providing services for special events, like pre-wedding facials or pampering sessions before a big photoshoot, often right in the client's home. Imagine the convenience and luxury of having a facialist come to you!
A huge part of being a successful esthetician, whether in a spa or freelancing, is having truly expert product knowledge. It goes beyond just applying products; it's about understanding each ingredient, how they interact, and tailoring a skincare routine that genuinely transforms a client's skin. I'm constantly diving into ingredient lists and learning which esthetician tools — from my cozy pink mixing bowl and spatula for custom masks to specialized massage tools — pair best with different treatments to maximize results. My dream is to offer personalized 'facials daily' to my clients, making self-care an accessible and cherished ritual for everyone, no matter their skin type or age. This journey is all about learning to listen to skin, slow down, and appreciate the little rituals that bring out that inner glow!
