✨ Weekly Prep: Mini Snack Edition ✨
With the kids back in school I’m back to my weekly snack prep! These snacks are perfect for the kids as soon as they get home from school!
For the snacks I use the following ingredients:
•mini club crackers
•Colby Jack cheese cubes
•baby carrots
•homemade ranch
•green grapes
•chocolate covered pretzels
•gala apples
•peanut butter
To put them together I do the following:
-Cheese and Crackers: I take a whole block of Colby Jack cheese and I cut them into 1/2 inch cubes and fill the square portion with the cubes cheese. For the circle portion I add in the mini club crackers.
-Carrots and Ranch: I take my bottle of homemade ranch and I squirt it into the square portion of the containers and I fill the circle portion of the containers with baby carrots
-Grapes and Chocolate Covered Pretzels: I was my green grapes thoroughly and place them in the circle portion of the containers and grab the Flipp chocolate covered pretzels and fill the square portion with them
-Apple slices and peanut butter: I cut up gala apples and soak them in a lemon and cold water mixture to stop the apples from browning. Once they soak for a few minutes I then dry them and fill the circle portion of the container with them. I then scoop my homemade peanut butter into the square portion of the jar.
I try to have dinner done by 5pm everyday so these are the perfect fillers to keep them satisfied until dinner time but not too much that they don’t want to eat dinner.
Preparing mini snacks for kids after school can be a real game-changer for busy parents. From personal experience, having a variety of easy-to-grab, portion-controlled snacks ready ensures the kids come home to something healthy and tasty, helping prevent the usual hunger-induced meltdowns. I like to focus on snacks that balance nutrition and appeal. For example, pairing a small portion of fresh fruit or veggies with a protein like cheese or a few nuts usually does the trick. This keeps kids satisfied just enough until dinner without ruining their appetite. Organizing these snacks in small containers helps keep portions in check and makes snack time quicker and less messy. I found that ordering these mini containers from Temu is a cost-effective solution—they offer a great range of sizes ideal for snacks and are affordable compared to local stores. One tip I’ve found useful is to involve the kids in snack prep. Letting them choose between options or help fill their containers encourages them to be mindful eaters. Also, rotating the snack selection weekly keeps their interest and ensures they don’t get bored with the same treats. Finally, maintaining a consistent dinner time, like finishing dinner prep by 5 pm, helps regulate their hunger and reduces overeating at snack time. This routine of mini snack prep paired with timely dinner prep helps balance their daily energy needs and keeps the household running smoothly.
