Quaker has made the classic oatmeal flavor maple brown sugar, so I took that flavor and made it better so my kids would eat it and not complain 😂😂😂

Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup of brown sugar

• splash of vanilla

• dash of cinnamon

• 1 cup of oats

• 1 3/4 cup milk

Directions:

- In a saucepan on medium heat combine all the ingredients listed above. Give the mixture a good stir and cover. Cook this mixture for about 10 mins (check often) until the mixture has thickened up. Take the pan off the heat and enjoy! Top with brown sugar and cinnamon.

I used to dread making breakfast, but discovering how simple and delicious homemade brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal could be has been a total game-changer for my family. This isn't just any oatmeal; it's the kind that gets scraped clean from the bowl every single time, without a single complaint – and trust me, that's a win in my book! I know many of us grew up on those instant packets, but once you try this fresh, homemade version, you'll never look back. The beauty of making it yourself in a saucepan is that you get to control every single ingredient. You can adjust the sweetness of the brown sugar to your liking and add as much warm, comforting ground cinnamon as your heart desires. Plus, that little splash of vanilla? It takes the flavor to a whole new level! Getting the perfect consistency is key, and it's easier than you think. When you combine all your ingredients – the quick oats, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon – make sure to stir them well before covering. Keep an eye on it during those 10 minutes of cooking. You want it to be creamy and just starting to thicken up. Remember, it will continue to thicken slightly after you take it off the heat, so don't let it become a solid brick in the saucepan! I usually aim for a slightly looser consistency right before I turn off the stove, knowing it'll be perfect by the time we sit down to eat. One of my favorite things about this brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal is how versatile it is. While it's absolutely fantastic on its own, topped with a little extra brown sugar and cinnamon (just like in the recipe!), you can totally make it your own. For a nutritional boost, I sometimes stir in a tablespoon of chia seeds or flax seeds during the last few minutes of cooking. If we have fresh berries or sliced bananas on hand, those make amazing additions, adding natural sweetness and a pop of color. A handful of chopped walnuts or pecans can also add a lovely crunch and healthy fats. And if you're like me and always looking for ways to save time, this recipe is perfect for meal prepping! I often make a double batch on a Sunday evening. Once it's cooled, I portion it into individual containers and pop them in the fridge. In the morning, a quick reheat with a splash of extra milk or water on the stove or in the microwave brings it back to life. It's such a lifesaver for those hectic weekday mornings when every second counts. This delicious, warm bowl of goodness isn't just about satisfying hunger; it's about starting the day with something comforting and wholesome that everyone will love. Give it a try, and I bet it'll become a staple in your breakfast rotation too!
