Maybe you were walking into this year saying it was going to be your year and that you were going to improve things and be better.
How is that going??
Did you get pulled back by excuses again? Did you give up? Fall off?
The good and bad thing is that you are in control. Nobody else. If you look in the mirror, your finances, your life, your fitness.. those are all results of your past decisions.
It’s up to you to get you where you want to be! 👏👏
... Read moreWow, it's already mid-2024, and I've been doing some serious reflection lately. You know that feeling when you set all these amazing goals at the start of the year, vowing this would be your year, only to find yourself getting pulled back by old habits or putting everyone else first? I've been there, more times than I'd like to admit. But a recent realization hit me hard: I am not an option; I am a priority.
This isn't about being selfish; it's about self-preservation and self-respect. For too long, I let external demands dictate my time, energy, and even my worth. I was constantly available, saying 'yes' when I desperately wanted to say 'no,' and then feeling drained and resentful. But how can I truly show up for others, or achieve my own dreams, if my cup is consistently empty? Embracing the 'I'm a priority' mindset means acknowledging your intrinsic value and actively choosing to invest in yourself.
So, what does this look like in action? For me, it started with small, intentional shifts. It means protecting my boundaries with my time, energy, and even my finances. If I'm trying to cultivate a healthy body, that means scheduling my workouts and meal prep like non-negotiable appointments, not just 'if I have time.' It means nourishing not just my physical health but also my mental well-being, seeking out moments for a peaceful mind through meditation or simply disconnecting from screens.
In the past, I'd feel guilty for taking time for myself. Now, I see it as essential. That dream of a happy home isn't just about decor; it's about creating a personal sanctuary where I feel recharged. This might mean dedicating an hour each evening to decluttering, or simply sitting in silence with a cup of tea. It's about recognizing that these small acts of self-care aren't luxuries; they're the foundation for everything else. I've learned to say 'no' to commitments that don't align with my priorities, even when it feels uncomfortable at first. The initial discomfort is always worth the peace of mind and energy I gain back.
It's easy to fall into the trap of 'I'll start tomorrow,' or 'I don't have time.' But those are often just excuses masking a deeper fear of failure or a lack of self-worth. When you truly internalize that you are a priority, those excuses lose their power. You begin to see your goals – whether it's improving your finances, excelling in your career, or nurturing your relationships – as direct reflections of how much you value yourself. When I started treating myself as a priority, I noticed a ripple effect: my relationships improved because I had more to give, my work became more focused, and my overall happiness soared.
Remember, no one else can make you their priority if you don't first make yourself yours. This year, let's commit to showing up for ourselves with the same dedication we show to others. It's not too late to re-evaluate, adjust, and make the rest of 2024 your most growth-filled and fulfilling period yet. You are worthy, you are valuable, and you are, unequivocally, a priority.
