8 mile bike ride with the best crew!

It’s warming up here in the northern states and we are not used to it! We’ve been freezing for the past 7 months haha!

Losing 90 pounds also meant keeping it off. The only way that would happen was to build habits! We are active every day. Everyday is different but movement is key. Also, learning that you can’t out train a bad diet is key.

Food is so powerful.

When I embarked on my journey to lose 90 pounds and, more importantly, keep it off, I knew I needed to embed sustainable activity into my routine. For me, cycling became that cornerstone, truly embodying the 'Health first.' mantra that guides my lifestyle now. Many wonder, 'Why 8 miles?' For me, it was the perfect balance. It's long enough to get a substantial workout, build endurance, and burn a good amount of Calories, but not so long that it feels daunting or takes up my entire day. It’s an achievable daily goal that contributes significantly to my overall well-being. Starting out, I didn't just jump into 8 miles. I built up to it, perhaps starting with 2 or 3 miles and gradually increasing as my stamina improved. The key is consistency, not intensity, especially when you're just starting. The benefits I’ve personally experienced from this regular activity are immense. Physically, my cardiovascular health has soared, my legs are stronger, and it’s a fantastic way to maintain the weight loss I worked so hard for. But it’s more than just the physical. Those rides are my 'me-time.' They're a moving meditation where I can clear my head, de-stress, and just enjoy being outdoors, especially now that the northern states are finally warming up after what felt like an endless winter! The fresh air and scenery are an instant mood booster. To make your 8-mile bike ride enjoyable and sustainable, preparation is key. I always make sure my bike is in good working order, tires inflated, and I wear comfortable clothes and, crucially, a helmet. Staying hydrated is non-negotiable, so a water bottle is always with me. Sometimes, I plan a scenic route to keep things interesting, other times I just go wherever the path takes me. What's most important is finding a routine that works for you, whether it's a morning energizer or an evening wind-down. Of course, as I learned during my weight loss journey, you truly can't out-train a bad diet. My daily 8-mile bike ride works hand-in-hand with mindful eating. Food isn't just fuel; it's powerful, and making nutritious choices amplifies the benefits of every pedal stroke. It’s about creating a holistic healthy lifestyle where movement and nutrition support each other. If you're thinking about incorporating cycling into your routine, my best advice is to just start. Don't worry about fancy gear initially; just get a comfortable bike and a helmet. Stay hydrated and listen to your body. Some days, 8 miles feels effortless, like a joyous glide. Other days, it's a mental push, but the feeling of accomplishment afterward is always worth it. It's about building that habit, making movement a non-negotiable part of your day, just like brushing your teeth. This daily commitment to activity is what has truly helped me maintain my transformation and embrace a life where 'Health first.' isn't just a saying, but a way of living.
