My boobs arrived in the mail!

Okay Lemon8 fam, you guys won't believe this, but I literally had an 'Unboxing:' moment with my own anatomy yesterday! Yes, you read that right – 'I received my breast implants In the mail!' It still feels surreal to say. After undergoing my explant surgery out in California, I couldn't just hop on a plane back to Florida with these precious (and heavy!) cargo in my carry-on luggage. So, we arranged for them to be mailed, and let me tell you, opening that package was a whole experience in itself. Holding them in my hands, after they'd been inside my body for almost 12 years, was truly astonishing. The sheer weight and size of them! It made me think, 'How did I carry this around for so long?' It's one thing to know you have implants, but another entirely to see and feel the actual physical objects that were a part of you for over a decade. It really puts into perspective the physical burden our bodies carry and adapt to without us even fully realizing it. For those curious about the explant journey, it’s not just a physical surgery; it's a huge emotional and mental process too. Deciding to remove my implants was a deeply personal choice, driven by health concerns and a desire to reconnect with my natural body. The logistics of getting them mailed back across the country felt a bit bizarre, but it was just one of those unique steps in an already unique journey. Many patients choose to keep their implants for various reasons, whether for pathology testing or simply for the closure of seeing them. Many of us get implants for various reasons – confidence, aesthetics, or even reconstruction. And for a long time, my enhanced breasts were a significant part of my identity. But over time, as I learned more about Breast Implant Illness (BII) and started experiencing symptoms, the decision to explant became clearer. The process itself, from finding the right surgeon to the recovery, is a marathon, not a sprint. The feeling of finally having them out, to physically feel that shift, is immense. Now, looking at these 'bags' – as I affectionately call them – I feel a mix of relief and wonder. Relief that they're out, and wonder at what my body endured. It’s hard to explain the feeling of newfound lightness, both physically and mentally. It makes me reflect on how we perceive our bodies and what truly makes us feel 'comforted.' For so long, my enhanced breasts were a source of external validation, but now, the comfort comes from within, from knowing I made a healthy choice for myself. This unboxing, while quirky, feels like a significant milestone in my transformation back to my authentic self. It’s a powerful reminder of how resilient our bodies are and the incredible journey some of us go on for our health and well-being.
