Maintaining good eye health often starts with simple habits in our makeup routine, and one of the easiest yet most overlooked steps is regularly throwing out expired mascara. Mascara wands can harbor bacteria over time, and using old mascara increases the risk of eye infections, especially if you accidentally poke your eye while applying it. From my own experience, I realized how important this is when I noticed eye irritation after using an old product. Since then, I make it a point to check the expiration date and dispose of mascara every three months or sooner if the texture or smell changes. Another helpful tip is to avoid sharing mascara with others to reduce contamination risks. Also, keep your mascara wand clean by wiping off excess product and never pumping the wand inside the tube, which introduces air and bacteria. These small practices have made my self-care routine feel manageable despite a busy schedule, and my eyes have never felt healthier or safer. Remember, good self-care doesn’t have to be complicated—sometimes it’s as simple as keeping your makeup fresh and safe!
