Day 2 of Ceramics 🩷

My ceramics journey is seriously becoming my favorite part of art school, even if I'm learning alongside both dedicated art majors and total beginners! I'm currently on Day 2 of this amazing class, and my mind is buzzing with ideas for cute pottery designs. It's so exciting to see simple clay transform into something adorable! Right now, I'm trying to finish up a couple of pieces that I think perfectly capture that 'cute' vibe. One of them is what I've affectionately named my 'BBL cat.' Yes, it sounds funny, and honestly, it's a little bit botched if you look too closely, but that's part of the charm, right? Cute designs often don't need to be perfectly symmetrical or flawless. Sometimes, a little wonkiness adds character! When I started on this BBL cat, I focused on creating a round, friendly shape, knowing that I could add small details later to bring out its personality. Another project I'm loving is my set of mini blueberries. These are just so tiny and fun to create! What makes them cute, I think, is their simplicity and the repetition. Imagine a little bowl filled with these. When you're thinking about cute pottery, don't underestimate the power of small, repetitive elements or food-inspired themes. They instantly evoke a sense of playfulness and charm. I'm also starting to add a little blueberry on the top of the head of my cat piece – combining elements can create even more unique and adorable designs! One thing I've learned quickly in this ceramics class, whether you're an art major or not, is that mistakes happen. For instance, I accidentally sprayed too much water on one part, making it a bit softer than I intended. But instead of panicking, I realized it's all part of the learning process. Sometimes, those 'accidents' lead to unexpected and even cuter results! Don't let the fear of imperfections stop you from experimenting with your own cute pottery designs. If you're looking to create your own cute pottery, here are a few tips I've picked up: Start with simple forms: Think spheres, cylinders, or basic animal outlines. It's easier to add cute details to a solid base. Accessorize! Tiny ears, noses, little feet, or even small decorative elements like my blueberry on the head can bring a piece to life. Think about scale: Miniatures are often inherently cute. My mini blueberries are a perfect example. Embrace imperfections: As I learned with my BBL cat, sometimes a slightly imperfect shape gives a piece character and makes it uniquely yours. Consider color: Pastel glazes, bright pops of color, or simple contrasting details can enhance the cuteness. Seeing how my final pieces are looking, despite the little challenges, makes this 10/10 ceramics class so rewarding. It's all about enjoying the creative process and ending up with something that brings a smile to your face.
