Oh my gosh, you guys! After sharing about the Coraline's Curious Cat Trail a couple of weeks ago, I finally made it to Portland, and it's even better than I imagined. Just walking around for a few hours, I've already stumbled upon nine of these incredible Coraline cat sculptures, and honestly, the excitement is contagious! This whole trail is such a brilliant idea by Laika, the studio behind Coraline, which is based right here in Portland. It's not just about finding the cats; it's about the atmosphere. Everywhere I went, people were gathered around the sculptures, taking photos, chatting, and just genuinely enjoying the experience. It's like a city-wide treasure hunt that brings people together. For those of you planning your own Coraline cat adventure, let me share a few insights from my first day. While I just started wandering, I'd definitely recommend checking if there's an official map or app available. It would make spotting all of them much easier! I found my first few near the waterfront and then branched out into different neighborhoods. Each cat is truly a piece of art, showcasing different facets of Portland's vibe and the Coraline universe. For instance, one of the first I saw was the vibrant, rainbow-colored '#1-keep Portland weird' cat, complete with a unicorn horn – so perfectly Portland! Then there was the striking dark, multi-colored '#2- nightlife' cat, which really stood out on the city sidewalk. I also loved the elegant red cat with white flower patterns, labeled '#3- mizton', standing gracefully by a fountain. Further on, I discovered the beautiful bronze-colored '#4- she flies with her own wings' cat, which felt so inspiring. And if you're a fan of the movie's circus scenes, you'll adore '#5- the other circus' cat, with its unique circus-themed patterns. The bright green '#6- cat usher' wearing a blue uniform was just too cute and definitely a standout. I also spotted the mysterious dark blue '#7- cat of the evening sky' with its rainbow-colored tail, and the eye-catching black and green '#8- coraline's tulips' cat, which even had a real little cat sniffing its sign – how ironic! Finally, I rounded off my day with the classic '#9- bronzed cat' in an outdoor food court, perfect for a photo op while grabbing a snack. What makes this trail so special is how each sculpture tells a story, not just about Coraline, but about Portland itself. The original Coraline cat from the movie is such an iconic, mysterious figure, and these sculptures capture that magic perfectly, bringing it to life in a new way.
