... Read moreIt's so true that life can get tough, and sometimes just wanting to be positive isn't enough – you need actionable steps. Beyond the core tips I shared, I've found a few other strategies that really lift my spirits and help me cultivate a more joyful outlook, especially when things feel heavy.
One thing that consistently helps me is getting out of the house, even for something small. The OCR mentioned "running errands" and grabbing an "iced coffee," and it's so true. It's not just about what you're doing, but the change of scenery. Even a quick trip to the grocery store or a short walk around the block can break a cycle of negative thoughts. That fresh air and a bit of movement do wonders for clearing my head. It's about intentionally stepping away from whatever might be making me feel down.
I also find immense joy in embracing the holidays and seasons. As the OCR noted, "decorating for holidays" truly shifts the atmosphere in my home. It's about celebrating the moment, creating coziness, and having something to look forward to. Whether it's carving pumpkins in the fall, putting up twinkling lights for winter, or planting flowers in spring, these seasonal rituals bring a sense of comfort and continuity. It reminds me that change is natural and beautiful.
Finding happiness in new experiences is another big one for me. The idea of visiting a "farmer's market" or "going to new places" mentioned in the OCR really resonates. There's something incredibly uplifting about discovering something new, whether it's a local market, a new cafe, or even just a different route for my walk. This also ties into "trying new things." I recently tried golfing, and while I wasn't great, the "sense of accomplishment" from learning a new skill, even a small one, was incredibly empowering. It shows me I'm capable of growth and challenge.
And speaking of nature, getting outdoors is a non-negotiable for my mental well-being. The OCR highlighted "clearing the mind in nature," and it's spot on. Whether it's a hike in the woods, a stroll through a park, or simply sitting in my backyard, being surrounded by greenery and fresh air instantly calms my nervous system. It puts things into perspective and reminds me of the beauty and vastness beyond my own worries.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, spending time with loved ones brings so much "joy of company." Making an effort to connect with friends and family, sharing meals, or just having a good chat, fills my emotional cup. It reminds me I'm not alone, and that there's a strong support system around me. Those shared laughs and heartfelt conversations are truly invaluable for maintaining a positive outlook. Even a quick phone call can make a huge difference.
These are just a few more ways I actively work on staying positive. It’s not always easy, but consistently integrating these small, intentional actions into my routine has made a significant difference in my overall happiness and resilience. Remember, it's okay to have tough days, but having a toolkit of strategies can help you navigate them.
I love these tips 🥲I’ve been depressed cause I’ve been away from my baby for 3weeks now waiting to have my second baby. We live in Alaska in a small village, and there’s no hospital where we live so we have to go to a city called anchorage to go wait a month before due date. 🥲🫶🏼
