PARTNER AB WORKOUT -for a strong deep core!
Abs are more fun to do with a partner ;) Grab a partner and lets do this!
This is a circuit meaning do 1 set of each exercise back to back with little to no rest in between! Take your movements slower to engage your core and work a little harder. Repeat the circuit 2-3 times total!
-20 Plank up and downs.
-20 V-sit ups
-30 sec Butterfly kicks
-20 Straight leg raises
-20 Bicycles
*TIP When lying flat on your back, tuck your back into the floor (avoid a air gap in your lower back between you and the floor) to avoid back pain and properly engage your core!
Okay, so you've got your partner and you're ready to crush those abs – that's awesome! But beyond just doing the circuit, I've found a few things that really elevate our partner ab workout sessions. It's not just about the exercises; it's about making it a sustainable and super effective part of your routine. First off, let's talk about why partner workouts are a game-changer for your core. For me, having a workout buddy means instant accountability. On days when I'm just not feeling it, knowing my friend is counting on me gets me off the couch. Plus, it adds a layer of healthy competition and motivation. We push each other harder, and sometimes, a little friendly banter makes the tough reps fly by! We even spot each other or provide resistance for certain moves, which you can’t always do alone. Before diving into those intense plank up and downs or V-sit ups, don't skip the warm-up! I learned this the hard way. A few minutes of light cardio like marching in place, some dynamic stretches like torso twists, and cat-cow stretches really prepare your core and prevent strains. And post-workout? A good cool-down with static stretches like a child's pose or cobra stretch helps in recovery and flexibility. To really make these partner ab exercises count, focus on modifying them to your fitness level. If V-sit ups are too challenging initially, try doing crunches with your feet on the floor first. Or, if you want to dial up the intensity for straight leg raises, try holding a light weight between your feet, or have your partner gently push your legs down as you resist. For bicycles, really focus on twisting your torso and bringing your elbow to the opposite knee, rather than just moving your legs. And those plank up and downs? Make sure your hips stay as stable as possible to really engage your core, not just your arms. Another pro tip I swear by is communication. Talk to your partner! Are you both feeling the burn? Do you need a slightly longer rest between circuits? Setting the pace together ensures you both get the most out of the session. Sometimes, we even use each other for resistance. For example, during butterfly kicks, one partner can gently hold the other's feet down for added stability and core focus. Beyond the exercises, remember that a strong core isn't just built in the gym. What you eat plays a huge role. I've found that pairing my consistent partner ab workouts with a balanced diet rich in protein and whole foods really helps reveal those strong ab muscles we're working so hard for. Hydration is key too! Lastly, don't get discouraged if you don't see results overnight. Consistency is your best friend. Make it a routine, try different partner ab workouts to keep things fresh, and celebrate small victories. The journey to a strong, deep core is a marathon, not a sprint, and having a partner by your side makes it so much more enjoyable and achievable!
