Hey Lemon8 fam! So many of you ask me how I really target my glutes during leg day, and honestly, it’s all about being intentional with your movement selection and execution. My core glute-focused leg day isn't just a random set of exercises; each one plays a crucial role in building that strong, rounded booty we all desire. I originally shared a quick overview, but I wanted to dive a bit deeper into why these moves are my absolute go-to and how I get the most out of them. First up, Hip Thrusts. The OCR recognized these as a preference with a barbell, and I totally agree! For me, hip thrusts are non-negotiable. They offer incredible peak contraction for the glutes, especially the upper glutes, which is key for that 'shelf' look. My personal tip? Focus on driving through your heels and squeezing your glutes hard at the top, holding for a second. Don't just push the weight; feel your glutes doing the work. Then we have RDLs (Romanian Deadlifts). The OCR mentioned hinging at the hips and stopping below the knees, which is perfect guidance. RDLs are fantastic for lengthening the glutes and hitting the hamstrings, giving your booty a fuller, more sculpted appearance. I always make sure my back stays neutral, and I imagine pushing my hips back towards the wall behind me, rather than just bending over. You should feel a deep stretch in your hamstrings and glutes at the bottom. Landmine Squats are a game-changer if you want to get your booty low, as the OCR states. They're a forgiving compound movement, great for building strength and depth without the same mobility demands as a traditional barbell squat. I love how they allow me to really sit back into my heels and get a deep stretch in my glutes at the bottom. The key here is definitely getting as low as you comfortably can while maintaining form – that's where the magic happens for glute activation. And finally, Cable Kickbacks. As the OCR reminds us, keeping these slow and controlled is absolutely essential. These are my favorite for isolating the glutes and really getting that burn. I focus on a strong contraction, almost like I’m pressing my heel against an imaginary wall behind me. Don't swing the leg; control the movement both up and down to maximize time under tension. Beyond the exercises themselves, a few principles have helped me immensely. Mind-muscle connection is paramount; really think about squeezing your glutes with every rep. Don't just go through the motions! Progressive overload means I'm always trying to do a little more over time – whether it's an extra rep, a heavier weight, or cleaner form. And lastly, never skip a proper warm-up! Dynamic stretches before and static stretches after can make a huge difference in preventing injury and improving recovery. Consistency truly is key, so find a routine you enjoy and stick with it. Happy glute growing!
