The ONE muscle you’re not training but SHOULD be!

Today we’re talking about the rear delts…

Here are the exercises you can do to target these 👇🏼

-Cable rear delt flys

-Machine rear delt flys

-Dumbell bent over rear delt flys

-Rope face pulls

I typically do 3 sets of 12 reps slow and controlled with one of these exercises per upper body workout.

Heres why I think it’s important to train rear delts

1: POSTURE

If you’re constantly working your front delts (front of your shoulders) and not balancing your rear delts then odds are your shoulders are rounding forward instead of back and down because of the lack of strength ESPECIALLY if you had a job where youre sitting down in front of a desk or driving a lot.

2: Injury prevention/improvement on your lifts.

If you’re weak on the posterior part of your upper back then your other lifts may be paying the price. If you strengthen your rear delts/rhomboids then you’re more likely to be able to improve strength/muscular growth in your other lifts as they help stabilize your shoulders and prevent a common injury (rotator cuff tear/strain)

Many people focusing on their front delts and chest risk developing shoulder imbalances that can lead to rounded shoulders and contribute to discomfort or injury. The rear delts help counteract these issues. Incorporating exercises such as cable rear delt flys, bent-over dumbbell flys, and face pulls into your routine can lead to remarkable improvements not only in your shoulder health but also in your overall upper body strength. Research highlights that strengthening the rear delts contributes to better stabilization of the shoulder joint, which is essential in preventing common injuries like rotator cuff strains. Additionally, training these muscles regularly can enhance performance in other lifts, allowing for greater weight progression over time. For those engaging in fitness or sports where upper body strength is essential, such as swimming, weightlifting or even day-to-day activities, focusing on rear delts holds significant long-term benefits. Remember to approach your workouts mindfully. Start with lighter weights to ensure proper form, aiming for 3 sets of 12 reps at a controlled pace. Your body will thank you for this often-overlooked addition to your training plan!
