Signs of tongue & lip tie on our little one
The clicking, pain when he latched, dripping milk, snoring, bite-like motion when feeding, so many things that I would have never thought were associated with a tongue/lip tie!
After seeing a LC and getting second and third opinions it was confirmed that he did have a tongue and lip tie.
Tongue tie (ankyloglossia) and lip tie are health conditions that can significantly impact an infant's ability to feed comfortably and effectively. Common signs to watch for include clicking sounds during nursing, pain for the mother when the baby latches, excessive milk dripping, snoring, and unusual biting or jaw movements while feeding. These symptoms are often subtle and can easily be mistaken for normal feeding challenges. It is vital to seek evaluation by experienced lactation consultants or pediatric specialists, who can confirm the diagnosis through thorough oral examination. They may recommend further opinions to ensure accurate identification. Early diagnosis and treatment, such as frenotomy or laser revision, can improve feeding success and reduce complications like poor weight gain or maternal nipple pain. Parents should also be aware that tongue and lip ties can sometimes contribute to speech difficulties later in childhood.
