Batam salon… who’s actually trained? 👀

I finally tried Amoure Beauty Studio in Batam for a Manicure + Pedicure Spa, and I think this is one of those places where I walked away with… mixed feelings.

Let’s start with the manicure.

I’m not someone who’s super sensitive when it comes to nail appointments. I’ve had my fair share of rough manicurists in Malaysia too, so I know sometimes they really go all out on your cuticles.

But this one was… really rough.

She was aggressively scraping away every last bit of my cuticle, and she cut my nails so short that she accidentally nicked my nail bed. 😭 She apologised immediately when I said it hurt, so I appreciated that. I also noticed her hands were visibly shaking while she was working, which honestly made me wonder if she was still quite new.

The Pedicure Spa was… okay.

Nothing particularly bad happened, but before we started, I overheard my therapist asking her colleague what the next steps were. She also got that same colleague to prepare the clay mask for her. It made me question whether she was fully trained for the treatment or still learning on the job.

One unexpected highlight though? 🐱 They have an in-house kitty that casually roams around the salon. Total scene stealer. I probably spent more time looking at the cat than admiring my own nails. If you’re a cat person, you’ll understand.

Now for something I didn’t expect to notice—the overall atmosphere.

The whole team looked pretty young, very Gen Z energy. Nothing wrong with that at all. 😂 But throughout my appointment they were chatting loudly, joking around, and casually dropping swear words every few sentences.

Personally, I wasn’t offended because I’ve spent enough time in Indonesia to know that’s quite normal among friends. But if your clientele is largely Singaporean and Malaysian, it might come across as a little harsh or unprofessional, especially when customers don’t understand the context and only hear the language.

Overall, I didn’t have a terrible experience, but it also wasn’t one that made me think, “I have to come back.”

Here’s my random thought after leaving:

Would you rather have beauty therapists who are still inexperienced but quietly focus on their work… or experienced aunties who know exactly what they’re doing but spend the whole appointment being busybodies about your life? 😂

I’m genuinely curious where everyone stands on this.
