Agápē, the highest form of love, is often thought of as love for others, but it truly starts with oneself. In my personal journey, embracing agápē within has been transformative in cultivating self-love and inner peace. Valuing myself meant more than occasional affirmations—it required setting firm boundaries that protect my energy and foster abundance in my life. When I began practicing self-love as a form of alignment rather than selfishness, I noticed a profound shift. Choosing what is good for me didn't mean neglecting others; rather, it allowed me to give love more authentically and sustainably. I started to see self-love as an ongoing commitment to honor my well-being and desires. Setting boundaries was crucial in this process. It taught me to recognize when I needed to say no, protect my peace, and avoid situations or relationships that drained me. This self-protection is an act of abundance—it creates space for positivity and growth. Inner peace blossomed as I aligned more closely with my values and needs. The love I poured outward had a nourishing home within me, creating a powerful cycle of giving and receiving love that felt deeply fulfilling. I encourage anyone embarking on a path of self-love to remember: self-love is not a destination but a daily practice of valuing yourself, setting boundaries, and seeking what is good for your soul. Agápē toward self invites us to be our own sanctuary first, enabling us to shine more brightly for the world.
