Got to reach my reading goal🌸

2025/8/12 Edited to

... Read moreHey bookworms! Let's talk about that ever-elusive 'reading goal.' We all have them, right? But how many of us actually stick to them, especially when life gets crazy? I know the struggle. For ages, I wished I could read more, but between a busy schedule and demanding shifts (yes, even those 12-hour night shifts!), it felt impossible. Then, I discovered the magic of setting daily and weekly reading goals. You might be wondering, 'What's the big deal? Can a small daily goal really make a difference?' Trust me, it can! The biggest win from setting a daily reading goal isn't just finishing more books; it's building an unbreakable habit. When you commit to even 15-20 minutes, or a certain number of pages each day, reading becomes as natural as brushing your teeth. This consistent effort, day in and day out, is what truly helps you achieve an incredible reading volume over time. For someone like me, who often works long, tiring shifts, reading isn't just a hobby – it's a lifeline. After a mentally draining 12-hour night shift, diving into a fictional world or learning something new helps me decompress like nothing else. Daily reading goals provide that guaranteed 'me time' to escape, relax, and give my mind a much-needed break from the day's demands. It’s a powerful tool for mental well-being and reducing burnout. Beyond relaxation, the cumulative knowledge you gain from daily reading is astonishing. Whether it's fiction expanding your empathy or non-fiction teaching new skills, consistent reading fuels personal and professional growth. Suddenly, you're more informed, more articulate, and constantly evolving. This wasn't something I consciously aimed for when I started, but it's been one of the most rewarding achievements of my reading journey. There's an incredible feeling of accomplishment that comes with hitting your daily or weekly reading target. It’s a small win, but these small wins add up, building momentum and motivation to keep going. It transforms reading from a chore into a rewarding challenge. You'll find yourself excited to pick up your book, knowing you're making progress towards a larger goal. So, how do I manage to read everyday, even when I'm exhausted after a 12-hour shift? It comes down to a few simple strategies: Find Your Window: My secret is finding those 'non-negotiable' moments. For me, it's often right before bed, even if I'm sleepy. For you, it might be during your commute, over lunch, or first thing in the morning. Identify a time when you can consistently dedicate those 15-20 minutes. Make it Easy: Always have a book within reach! I keep one by my bed, in my bag, and even on my phone. The less friction, the more likely you are to actually open it. Start Small & Be Flexible: Don't aim for an hour a day right away. Start with 10 pages or 15 minutes. It's better to consistently hit a small goal than repeatedly miss an ambitious one. And on days when you're truly swamped, a single page is still progress! Don't beat yourself up; just get back to it tomorrow. Setting daily and weekly reading goals has truly changed my relationship with books and even my overall well-being. It's not about being a 'fast reader' or finishing a certain number of books by year-end (though those are great outcomes!). It's about cultivating a sustainable habit that enriches your life, one page at a time. What are your reading goals? Let me know!
