enough excuses, posting my first publication
hi lovelies, i know I've been gone for a really long time and here's why😔Not many people know this but I love writing and I've always dreamed of working in journalism or a field that allows me to dive into different topics of interest✍️Lemon 8 allowed me to do just that and I really loved having something to look forward to creating after work. However, I began to have the nagging feeling that my content was a far reflection of who I was and it just felt like I was stuck in an endless cycle of chasing trends and trying to predict what would be a 'hit', because I was so scared I would lose what little traction I have. So I stopped. I came to the realisation that I could either spend the rest of my life chasing a path already carved and marked or one that was true to me even if it ended in absolute failure. I took the past few months to really ask myself what I truly want to put out into the world and who am I even trying to reach. ROT Magazine is the product of those questions and many sleepless nights. So many people have told me "magazine is dead" and to that I agree. ROT is short for The Rotting Grapezine, the full name of my publication. I can't slow or change the fact that my craft is dying, but I can make use of yesterday's news to bring you a new flavour, a decant of what goes unspoken, yet what compels us. I hope you'll continue to support me on this journey as I bring you the usual lifestyle content, but with far more of my voice.
Love,
A
Starting ROT Magazine has been a liberating experience for me, a chance to break free from the pressure of chasing hype and instead focus on what genuinely matters. One topic I’m passionate about is how convenience culture has subtly influenced our social lives, especially relating to cafe hopping as a modern status symbol. From personal experience, I’ve noticed how outings evolve into more of a performance than genuine connection, often driven by social expectations and unspoken budgets that can strain friendships. This awareness inspired me to write about the commodification of friendships and economic pressures that shape social interactions today. Another inspiring element is sharing deeper cultural observations, like the rising matcha trend and its roots in Japanese tradition. Exploring these themes gave me a fresh angle on how consumer choices relate to cultural respect and authenticity. By blending lifestyle content with thoughtful critiques and personal stories, ROT Magazine aims to offer readers not just entertainment but meaningful reflections on contemporary life. This journey encourages me—and hopefully others—to cherish authenticity over perfection and build connections rooted in real shared values.
