Can men & women be just friends ? 🤔💭 My take 🤷🏾♀️
In my opinion… for the most part no but also yes — but only in ✨some✨ instances. And only if there are FIRM boundaries in place. Firm means there is absolutely no chance of anything ever becoming more than friends. No flirting, no wondering what if, no lines being crossed — emotionally or physically. Period.
I think coworker friendships are a bit different because you work together but if you’re going out of your way to hang out one-on-one outside of work regularly? 👀 To me it’s crossing a boundary & it can get messy.
If you’re in a relationship I personally think there’s no need to be seeking out new opposite-gender friendships in the name of “just being friends”.
That said — I know people who have strong, healthy friendships with both men & women, and it works for them. The most important things are communication and STRONG boundaries.
What do y’all think? Can men and women truly be just friends — no blurred lines?
Navigating friendships between men and women is a nuanced topic. While many people believe that platonic relationships can exist, it's crucial to recognize that boundaries are essential for maintaining these relationships. Honest communication and self-awareness play vital roles in ensuring that friendships do not cross into romantic territory. If you are in a relationship, forming new opposite-gender friendships may raise concerns, highlighting the importance of intentions and boundaries. It's common for individuals to be surrounded by colleagues or friends of the opposite gender, but how you manage these interactions is key. Avoiding situations that might lead to emotional or physical crossing of lines helps preserve the friendship's integrity. For successful platonic friendships, it’s imperative to establish clear boundaries from the beginning, ensuring that both parties are on the same page. By integrating these principles, many have found ways to sustain strong, genuine friendships without conflict. Many people thrive in friendships with both genders, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect, trust, and understanding. However, these connections often require ongoing dialogue about feelings, expectations, and potential pitfalls, helping to create a strong foundation free from ambiguity. Ultimately, the question remains: can men and women truly be just friends? By focusing on firm boundaries and open communication, some have succeeded where others have struggled.

this conversation is all well and good, but one glaring issue i see is the existences of bi/gay/lesbian people who have same sex friendships. should bi people not have any friends? can gay men and lesbian women only have opposite sex friendships? what if those friendships are with a straight woman or man and then they catch feelings. i think this all just comes down to a person to person thing, everyone CAN have friendships with members of the preferred gender and/or sex, but if your a person who can’t then you or your partner need to voice and plan around that. plus, it’s not like humans are forced to pursue crushes, throughout my life ive had crushes on friends that i never acted upon because why would i? i have friends and i have a partner or partners, if you cheat it’s bc your a bad person, NOT bc your friends with other guys or girls.
