I almost ruined my own proposal 😅🫠
The day I got engaged was everything to me — but it definitely wasn’t like I pictured in my head. I knew he was going to propose at some point, but I really thought it would be on a different day.
We were out on a walk and he was being quiet and acting weird, so I was like wth okay?? And I lowkey started to get an attitude cause I didn’t get why he was being so off
(Meanwhile he was just nervous, which makes sense now lmao 😂😂😂.)
Then he got down on one knee and I had this rush of emotions all at once. I cried but I was genuinely shocked cause I didn’t think he was gonna propose that night and I didn’t react the way I imagined.
I honestly felt a little dumb for being weirded out right before it happened.
But I was SO excited, so happy, and it still ended up being one of my favorite moments ever.
Looking back, I think it was even better because I didn’t know when it was coming — I just wish my attitude would’ve been a little softer in the moment. 😭🫶🏾
Is that a normal reaction?? How did YOU react when you got engaged (or how do you think you would)?
It's so interesting to hear your story! And to answer your question, 'Is that a normal reaction??' – absolutely, yes! My proposal reaction was nothing like I'd ever imagined either. We see all these perfect movie proposals, but real life is often much more candid and, honestly, a lot funnier sometimes. Many of us go into that moment with a picture in our heads: immediate tears of joy, a graceful 'yes,' and a perfect embrace. But when it actually happens, shock, nervousness, and a flood of unexpected emotions can take over. Your partner acting 'weird' because he was nervous? That's classic! My fiancé was so quiet before he popped the question that I thought he was upset with me! It turns out, he was just practicing his lines and trying to keep the ring box hidden. The relief when he finally asked was palpable, but my initial reaction was more of a stunned silence followed by awkward laughter than the elegant cry I always envisioned. It's common to feel a mix of emotions, from pure elation to a touch of embarrassment or even 'is this actually happening?!' We're often caught completely off guard, and that raw, unfiltered emotion is what makes the memory so uniquely yours. Don't feel dumb for your initial weirded-out feeling; it just proves how genuinely surprised you were! Once the initial shock wears off, the true joy sets in. That's when you start to notice the beautiful diamond engagement ring sparkling on your finger. I remember staring at mine, thinking, 'Wow, this is real!' And the first thing I wanted to do was capture that moment. Taking a quick mirror selfie with my new fiancé, both of us grinning from ear to ear, was such a special way to remember the immediate aftermath. It's those candid moments, maybe even a quick texting session with loved ones later that night, sharing the happy news and smiling at the replies, that become cherished memories. Who needs a perfect pose when you have genuine happiness? From then on, the excitement builds. You start dreaming about future plans, maybe even picturing yourself in a beautiful wedding dress and veil. The engagement isn't just about that one question; it's about the journey that starts with it. So, embrace your unique proposal story, no matter how 'imperfect' it might seem. It's authentic, it's real, and it's perfectly you. I'd love to hear how others reacted to their proposals – was it what you expected, or did reality throw you a delightful curveball too?
