The truth about “Good Vibes Only”
The pressure to be positive all the time is exhausting. I have a bad habit with thinking I always have to be positive about everything then when I’m not I start to get really down on myself.
You can be grateful and happy and still have real feelings. “Good vibes only” isn’t the goal I should have I should just be allowing myself to feel everything throughout my day. I dont have to have perfomative happiness.
Does anyone else feel this way?
Many people feel the pressure to maintain a "Good Vibes Only" attitude, but this mindset can actually be harmful to mental health. Constant positivity often leads to ignoring or suppressing genuine emotions like sadness, anger, or frustration. This emotional masking can create a sense of isolation or shame, making it harder to cope with life's challenges. It's important to recognize that being grateful or happy doesn't mean you have to be positive all the time. Life naturally comes with ups and downs, and allowing yourself to experience a full range of emotions is essential for psychological well-being. Authenticity in feelings promotes healing and self-awareness, rather than forcing 'performative happiness' just to meet unrealistic social expectations. Studies suggest that suppressing negative emotions can lead to increased stress and mental health issues. Instead, adopting a balanced approach where you acknowledge and validate all emotions supports resilience and emotional growth. For example, if you had a tough day or felt anxious, it’s okay to express that without guilt. By shifting the focus from "Good Vibes Only" to "Feel All Vibes," individuals create a safer space for themselves and others to share honestly. This approach fosters stronger relationships built on trust and empathy, where people don’t feel pressured to hide their struggles. Remember, one emotion you’ve felt this week that wasn’t positive is a perfectly normal part of being human. Embracing this truth leads to better self-care and promotes genuine wellness beyond surface-level positivity.

This! Not every day is going to be perfect and that a fact we have to accept. Feeling our feelings is important. The other day I was so sad and upset and the only thing that made me feel better was putting some sad music cry for a bit and at the end I felt so much better.
