Wand toys with feathers or crinkly bits are fantastic because they mimic real prey movement. I'll make the 'prey' hide, dart, and even 'fly' to make it more engaging. Laser pointers are fun too, but always be sure to end the session by letting them 'catch' a physical toy so they don't get frustrated by never getting the reward of the kill. Another thing I've noticed is how different cats have different hunting styles. Some are stalkers, moving slowly and deliberately. Others are ambush predators, hiding and then pouncing with explosive speed. My cat is definitely a stalker, taking forever to get into position, which makes the eventual (usually unsuccessful) pounce even funnier.
