If you're planning a trip to Da Nang or Hoi An, you absolutely have to carve out time for the incredible coconut farm experience! I recently visited, and it was one of the highlights of my trip to Vietnam. While often associated with Hoi An, it's just a short and scenic drive from Da Nang, making it a perfect day excursion. The official name for this magical place is Rừng Dừa Bảy Mẫu (Seven Mau Coconut Forest), located in Cam Thanh village. As soon as you arrive, you're enveloped by a lush, green world of towering palm trees – it's breathtaking! The air is fresh, and the atmosphere is so peaceful, a wonderful escape from the city bustle. The main attraction, and something you see everywhere in photos, is the iconic basket boat ride. These unique round boats, called 'thung chai,' are traditionally used by local fishermen. You'll hop into one with a friendly local rower who will expertly navigate you through the winding waterways. It's so much fun! My rower even did the famous 'spinning boat dance,' twirling the boat around at high speed – it's exhilarating and totally safe, and they often use traditional music to enhance the experience. Don't forget to tip them for their amazing skills! Beyond the thrilling boat rides, the coconut farm offers so much more. You'll see locals demonstrating traditional fishing techniques, and some even make small crafts like rings or hats from coconut leaves right before your eyes, which make for lovely souvenirs. The photo opportunities are endless amidst the dense palm trees and the tranquil water. We even spotted that cute heart-shaped bamboo structure for photos that I saw in other people's posts! Tips for Your Visit: Best Time: Go in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat and crowds. The light is also beautiful for photos then. How to Get There: From Da Nang, you can take a Grab (car or motorbike), a taxi, or arrange a private car. From Hoi An, it's an even shorter ride. What to Wear: Light, comfortable clothing and a hat are a must. Sunscreen is essential! Cost: There's usually a small entrance fee to the area, and then you pay for the basket boat ride separately. Prices can vary, so be prepared to negotiate politely if needed. Combine with Hoi An: Since it's so close, many people combine their coconut farm visit with exploring the ancient town of Hoi An, especially in the evening when the lanterns light up. It’s not just a tourist trap; it’s a genuine glimpse into local life and a fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of Vietnam.
