Lost 2kg Eating This for Dinner

I Ate This for Dinner and Lost 2kg in One Week 👀

For one week, I replaced my usual heavy dinner with this simple cold shredded beancurd salad — 凉拌百页豆腐丝.

It looks like noodles, but it is actually thinly sliced beancurd mixed with cucumber, fresh chilli, black pepper and a light dressing.

According to the product label, this beancurd provides a good amount of plant-based protein, which made the meal feel more satisfying. The cucumber adds freshness and volume, while the chilli gives it enough flavour without needing a heavy sauce.

Why I enjoyed it:

✅ Good source of plant-based protein

✅ Chewy and satisfying texture

✅ Quick and easy to prepare

✅ Easy to add vegetables

✅ Helped me replace my usual heavier dinner

✅ Less likely to leave me craving supper

However, this is not a magic weight-loss food. My weight change may also have included water-weight changes. Sustainable weight loss still depends on your overall calorie intake, portions, activity and eating habits. HealthHub Singapore generally describes around 0.5–1kg per week as a more typical rate associated with an energy deficit.

Also, be careful with the dressing. Too much soy sauce, sesame oil or sugar can quickly increase the sodium and calories.

Who should avoid eating too much?

People with a soy allergy should avoid this completely, because the product contains soy and allergic reactions can potentially be serious.

People with kidney disease or medically prescribed protein, potassium or phosphorus limits should check with their doctor or renal dietitian before making high-protein soy foods a regular large portion. Kidney-disease diets often need to be individually adjusted.

Those trying to lose weight should still control the portion. Beancurd skin can contain more calories and fat than people expect, so eating a very large bowl does not automatically make it a low-calorie meal.

For me, the real benefit was simple: it gave me a satisfying dinner that helped me eat lighter and stay away from late-night snacks.

Would you replace noodles with this? Or is the texture not for you? 😂

... Read moreIf you're considering swapping your usual heavy dinner for something lighter and equally satisfying, shredded beancurd salad (凉拌百页豆腐丝) might be a great option to try. The uniqueness of shredded beancurd lies in its texture — it looks like noodles but provides a chewy and filling mouthfeel that tricks your appetite into feeling fuller with fewer calories. Personally, I found adding fresh cucumber and a little fresh chilli not only enhanced the flavor but also made the dish refreshing and vibrant. One handy tip is to watch the dressing carefully. While a dash of light soy sauce, vinegar, and sesame oil can make the dish savory and delightful, overdoing these can increase sodium and calorie counts, which might hinder your weight-loss goals. So, using them sparingly is key. To boost protein content further, you can add boiled shredded chicken breast, canned tuna, or even salmon flakes. These proteins help increase satiety and keep your energy levels stable after dinner. In my experience, including these additions made the meal more versatile on days when I needed a more substantial dinner without compromising calorie control. Another valuable insight is portion control. Even though beancurd skin is plant-based and protein-rich, large servings can still pack calories and fats. Balancing portion size with an adequate amount of vegetables ensures you don’t inadvertently consume excess calories. From a practical standpoint, preparing this salad takes less than 10 minutes, fitting well into busy schedules. Its freshness combined with a high-protein profile supports weight management by helping you avoid late-night snacking, a common pitfall when heavy dinners leave you less satiated. Do keep in mind that shredded beancurd contains soy, so it is not suitable for those with soy allergies. Also, if you have kidney disease or restrictions on protein, potassium, or phosphorus intake, it would be wise to consult your healthcare provider before making this a regular dinner choice. Overall, this shredded beancurd salad is not a magic bullet for weight loss, but its high protein and low-calorie nature made a notable difference in my eating habits and weight within a week. If you’re willing to try a new texture and want a quick, healthy dinner alternative, this recipe might surprise you!
