... Read moreThis homemade cranberry orange loaf is a delightful treat that combines the tartness of fresh cranberries with the bright citrus flavor of orange zest, making it an irresistible choice for any season, especially the holidays. The recipe balances sweetness and tang perfectly, and the added orange glaze enhances the loaf’s moist texture and burst of flavor. When preparing the loaf, tossing the cranberries in a little flour before folding them into the batter helps prevent them from sinking to the bottom during baking. The combination of baking powder and baking soda ensures the loaf rises nicely, delivering a tender crumb. Olive oil adds a subtle richness while keeping the loaf moist without heaviness, making it a healthier alternative to butter. Buttermilk or whole milk contributes to the loaf’s lightness and slight tang that complements the cranberries beautifully. This loaf can be easily customized: swap fresh cranberries for frozen when out of season, or add chopped nuts like walnuts for added texture. For those who prefer a dairy-free option, plant-based milk and a suitable egg substitute can be used. Baking at 350°F for about 50 to 60 minutes allows the flavors to meld and the loaf to develop a golden crust. Once cooled, drizzling or brushing the orange glaze made from powdered sugar and orange juice gives the loaf a shiny, sweet finish that’s visually appealing and tempting. Serving suggestions include pairing slices with a cup of tea or coffee for a cozy breakfast or snack. Leftovers can be stored wrapped in plastic or in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple of days or refrigerated for longer freshness. This cranberry orange loaf is a wonderful way to bring the festive spirit to your kitchen while enjoying a homemade dessert that’s both simple and delicious. Its combination of fresh fruit and citrus makes it a refreshing choice that offers more than just sweetness—it's an invitation to savor the comforting flavors of the season.
