Night 327 of reading the Bible 🫶

Inspiration: To love God and others and to do to others what we would wish for them to do to us is the sum of the Law and the Prophets, which are the two great sections of the Old Testament. If we loved others as much as we love ourselves, we would be instantly changed. If men followed this "Golden Rule" of our Lord, society would immediately be much safer and far more friendly.

Prayer: Teach us, Lord, to follow the Golden Rule, to do to others what we would desire to be done to us. Show us where we have failed to do this, Lord, and help us to correct our behavior and our attitude. Destroy in us sinful self-love and let love for you and others reign in its place. Amen.@KnightofJc

When we take time to sincerely consider how we wish to be treated and then consistently apply that thinking to others, it fosters empathy and genuine connection. In my own experience, practicing this principle daily has helped soften my judgments and increased my patience in challenging interactions. It prompts a mindset shift from self-centeredness to outward love and understanding, which is very much in line with the inspiration to love God and others as expressed in the reading. Society often feels fragmented, but embracing the Golden Rule could lead to safer, friendlier communities. It’s not just about grand gestures but also small everyday acts of kindness—listening attentively, showing respect, or offering a helping hand. When these practices become habitual, they collectively cultivate a culture that mirrors the love and compassion described in the Old Testament’s Law and Prophets sections. Moreover, the prayer asking for guidance to correct failures and replace sinful self-love with Christ-like love resonates deeply with me. It's a continual journey of self-improvement and spiritual growth. Through honest reflection and asking for divine help, we can overcome selfish tendencies and live out the commandment more fully. Ultimately, the Golden Rule challenges us to live intentionally and love unconditionally, reminding us that true change begins within us—leading to ripple effects that better our relationships, communities, and the world.
