... Read moreGood morning, friends! ✨ We often hear that “motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” And honestly, that quote has been a game-changer for me. How many times have you felt super pumped to begin something new – a fitness routine, a creative project, learning a new skill – only to find that fire fizzles out after a few days or weeks? I know I’ve been there more times than I can count! I’d start strong, full of enthusiasm, but when the initial excitement wore off, it became incredibly hard to press forward. That's when I realized the critical difference between a burst of motivation and the steady power of habit. Motivation is like a powerful wind that fills your sails, giving you an incredible push to set off. It’s fantastic for starting! But winds change directions, and sometimes they die down completely. If you only rely on that initial gust, you’ll end up stranded. This is where habit steps in. Habit is the engine of your ship, the consistent, reliable force that propels you forward, even when there's no wind to be found or when the waters get choppy. It’s the consistent daily action that doesn’t require you to feel like doing it. So, how do we build these powerful habits that truly *keep us going*? My biggest realization was that it starts with tiny, almost ridiculously small steps. Instead of aiming for an hour-long workout every day, I started with just 10 minutes. Instead of writing a whole chapter, I committed to just one paragraph. The goal isn't to achieve perfection, but to build consistency. Once that small habit felt ingrained, I could gradually increase it. Another trick I found helpful is habit stacking – linking a new desired behavior to an existing one. For example, after I make my morning coffee (an existing habit), I immediately do 10 minutes of stretching. It creates an automatic trigger. What happens when motivation inevitably dips? Because let's be real, it will! On those days when getting started feels like climbing a mountain, I lean on my habits. I don't ask myself if I feel like doing it; I just do it because it's part of my routine. It's like brushing my teeth – I don't need motivation for that; it's just what I do. Sometimes, I also revisit my 'why' – why did I start this in the first place? Reminding myself of the long-term goal helps reconnect me to my purpose. And it's okay to have off days! The key is not to let one missed day turn into two, or three. Forgive yourself, and get back on track the very next day. That perseverance, even on tough days, is where true strength lies. You really are stronger than you think, and by cultivating strong habits, you'll find that 'pressing forward when it gets tough' becomes a natural part of your journey, not an impossible hurdle. What small habit can you start building today to keep your momentum going?
