Slowing down doesn’t come naturally to me.

Sunday pause… even if I have to ease my way into it.

Slowing down doesn’t come naturally to me. I’d be a liar if I said I just woke up and went straight to rest mode.

The kitchen is clean, the refrigerator is cleaned out, groceries are done, Noah’s been dropped off and picked up from work. I’ve listened to almost an entire book over the last two days while getting things done, checked my inventory, set up my order, and squeezed in two tutorials on a new app.

Now… it’s finally time to sit poolside with my husband while Roxy is stretched out on the lanai, completely unbothered.

This is my version of a Sunday pause. Not perfect, not slow from the start, but intentional enough to stop and breathe before the day keeps going.

Rest doesn’t always come first, but it still matters when we choose it.

What does slowing down look like for you today?

I’ve found that incorporating small but intentional pauses into my routine has made a significant difference in how I recharge and approach the week ahead. For example, using Sunday as a dedicated day to catch up on tasks—like tidying the kitchen, organizing groceries, or learning something new through tutorials—allows me to clear my mind before settling into rest mode. What truly helps me embrace this slower rhythm is the final transition: sitting poolside with my husband while our dog relaxes nearby. This moment of calm becomes a powerful reminder that rest doesn’t have to be about stopping everything immediately; rather, it’s about choosing to breathe and be present after the productive parts of the day. Listening to an audiobook while completing chores is another tactic I use to blend productivity with relaxation, making the process feel less like work and more like self-care. The idea of a 'Sunday pause' is not about perfection but about intention—choosing to slow down at some point and giving yourself permission to rest, even if the day started off hectic. If you’re like me, rest might not come naturally at first. But creating these habits, like planning a quiet moment or engaging in mind-refreshing activities alongside daily routines, can gradually reshape your relationship with downtime. What does slowing down look like for you today? Whether it’s a brief walk, reading a favorite book, or simply breathing deeply, these pauses are vital for mental wellness and overall balance.
