no video proof...
CoCo is catching on to the talking dog buttons pretty quickly! Not long after giving her a treat for doing her thing outside then coming back in when called, she kept pushing the "treat" button. Turns out, her bowl was empty and she was asking for it to be filled! "Treat" means "food" to her.
Of course, she didn't push the button completely when I was standing there ready to get video proof... that only happens when I sit down and get comfortable. 🤣
On a side note, the "car ride" button has been placed out of reach until further notice. 🤨🚗

It's been such an incredible journey watching CoCo, my clever Bernedoodle, pick up on her talking buttons so quickly! I still can't get over the moment she kept nudging the 'treat' button, and I realized her food bowl was completely empty. It wasn't just about a treat; she was clearly telling me she needed her dinner! It's moments like these that truly show how intelligent our furry friends are and how much they try to communicate with us. Teaching your dog to use talking buttons can be such a rewarding experience, and I wanted to share a bit more about what I've learned so far. For anyone thinking about starting, patience is absolutely key. Don't expect your dog to become a Shakespearean orator overnight! We started with just a few basic buttons – 'outside,' 'play,' and 'treat.' It's important to consistently press the button yourself while saying the word, right before or during the action. For instance, every time we went outside, I'd press 'outside' and say the word clearly. CoCo really started making connections when she saw the immediate result of her pressing the button. Another funny anecdote involves our 'car ride' button. Initially, I thought it would be great for her to ask to go for a drive. Well, she took to it a little too well! After a couple of impromptu demands for joyrides, I had to temporarily move that button out of reach. It just goes to show how quickly they learn to leverage these tools for their own desires, which is both hilarious and sometimes a bit inconvenient! When your dog starts generalizing a word, like CoCo doing with 'treat' meaning 'food,' it's actually a huge step! It shows they understand the concept behind the word, not just the specific action. You can then introduce more specific buttons if you want, like 'kibble' or 'snack,' but sometimes it's also sweet to just let them use the word they've chosen. The most important thing is to celebrate every small victory and make it a fun, positive experience for them. Seeing their little minds work and being able to understand their wants more clearly has definitely deepened our bond. If you have a Bernedoodle or any other curious canine, I highly recommend exploring talking buttons – it's a whole new world of communication!
