My book
A bit from my book Jackalope Fangs
I've always been fascinated by mythical creatures, and the jackalope holds a special place in my imagination. The question 'do jackalopes have fangs?' is one I get asked a lot about my book, 'Jackalope Fangs,' and it's a fantastic starting point for diving into the lore! Most people know jackalopes as rabbits with antlers, but the idea of them having fangs, or even being poisonous or carnivorous, really sparks curiosity, doesn't it? In real-world folklore, the jackalope is often depicted with deer-like antlers, typically male. The origins are fascinating, believed to stem from sightings of rabbits afflicted with papillomavirus, which causes horn-like tumors. But what if these creatures evolved beyond just horns? What if their bite carried something more dangerous, or they had a taste for something other than clover? That's where my story, 'Jackalope Fangs: Book 1 of Tales of Shadow Oaks,' begins to explore. When I started crafting the world of Shadow Oaks, I wanted to take familiar myths and twist them. The idea of a jackalope possessing fangs, making it not just a quirky legend but a potentially fearsome creature, felt incredibly compelling. It allowed me to explore themes of hidden dangers, survival, and the unknown lurking just beneath the surface of a seemingly ordinary forest. The excerpts from my book, where characters discuss whether jackalopes are poisonous or carnivorous, give you a little peek into the dilemmas and mysteries awaiting. It’s not just about antlers anymore; it's about what else these creatures might be capable of. My protagonist returns to Shadow Oaks, a place where the familiar becomes fantastical. Imagine a forest where even the plants, like the meat-eating sunflowers, are part of the ecosystem's wild side! It’s a world where ancient promises and strange beings intertwine, and the jackalopes, with their potential fangs, are a central part of that mystery. I loved weaving in the 'promise of the jackalopes' into the narrative, hinting at deeper lore and connections. For me, writing 'Jackalope Fangs' was about bringing a fresh perspective to a beloved creature. It's about asking 'what if?' and building a rich, immersive world around those questions. If you've ever wondered about the darker, more mysterious side of folklore, or if you simply love a good adventure filled with unique creatures and unexpected twists, then 'Jackalope Fangs' is definitely for you. You can even get a taste of the adventure with chapters 1-5, available for purchase. It’s been an incredible journey bringing the tales of Shadow Oaks to life, and I can't wait for you to discover its secrets, especially what lies behind those legendary fangs!
