Guess my height? 🤭

Hey everyone! So, I've seen a lot of 'Guess My Height' challenges floating around, and honestly, they're so much fun to participate in! It's actually harder than it looks to accurately guess someone's height just from a picture or video. I mean, my own challenge is live right now, and I'm loving seeing all your guesses! But have you ever really thought about how you guess someone's height? I've been doing a bit of research and wanted to share some tips I've picked up, especially for those of you who might want to try your own 'Guess My Height' post, or just want to get better at it! First off, the human eye is easily tricked by perspective. If someone is standing closer to the camera, they'll look taller than they actually are, even if there's someone else in the background who is objectively taller. Speaking of common objects, this is my number one tip for trying to guess someone's height! If you see something in the picture that you know the standard size of – like a door frame (usually 80 inches or 203 cm), a standard soda can (around 4.83 inches or 12.2 cm), or even a typical park bench – you can use that as a reference point. Just be careful, because not all objects are standard! A good trick is to mentally 'stack' the known object to estimate the person's height. Another thing to consider is footwear. Are they wearing heels, platforms, or just flat sneakers? This can add anywhere from an inch to several inches to their perceived height. Posture also plays a huge role; someone slouching will appear shorter, while someone standing perfectly straight might seem taller. Camera angle is also super important! A low-angle shot can make anyone look like a giant, while a high-angle shot can make even the tallest person seem a bit shorter. I've also noticed that people tend to guess in round numbers, like 5'5" or 5'10". It's rare to see someone guess 5'7.5"! Maybe it's just our brains liking simplicity.
