What I love most about this recipe is the flexibility—whether you want to use Greek yogurt and cottage cheese for a healthier twist or replace them with more traditional media crema, it still turns out delicious. The key is balancing the tartness of the lime juice with the sweetness of condensed milk. Personally, I prefer to use half a can of condensed milk to keep it from being overly sweet, but you can adjust that to suit your taste.
Using Maria cookies as the base adds a wonderful texture and slight crunch, complemented by the smooth layers of cream cheese and fresh strawberries. I recommend refrigerating the Carlota for at least 1.5 hours, as this allows the cookies to soften just enough while still holding the structure. This makes for a delightful chilled dessert, especially on hot days.
Pro tip: Reserving some strawberries for decoration on top gives an inviting look and adds an extra fresh burst when serving. The blending method is also simple—blend all ingredients except the lime juice first, then add the lime and blend a bit more on a low setting to preserve some texture.
This dessert is not only delicious but also versatile. You can experiment by adding different fruits or even a hint of vanilla extract for an aromatic twist. It’s a great recipe to have on hand for last-minute gatherings or when you want to treat yourself without complicated steps. Enjoy making it your own and sharing with family and friends!
