What to expect at your next OB appointment

I’m trying to make my health a priority this year! Come with me as I go to my women’s wellness exam.

If your trying to plan for the future as a young women or if you’ve been neglecting yourself and just don’t know what to expect during a women wellness exam I’ll give you some information to help ease your anxiety!

🌼 Check-in for your appointment and pay your copay if you have one.

🌼 The nurse or medical assistant will take your basic vitals such as your weight, temperature, height. They will review your medical history and will put your top complaints and reason for your visit in your chart for the doctor to review.

🌼 You’ll be taken to a private room to see the doctor. Once the doctor comes in they will review your chart and your complaint with you.

🌼 Your doctor will excuse themselves and you will now undress yourself and should be covered in a provided gown.

🌼 Your doctor and nurse or medical assistant will return to preform a Pap smear or collect any other specimens that is needed pertaining to your complaints.

🌼 A breast examination should be completed and your vaginal area will be examined as well. Relax and focus on your breathing. Your doctor will use some tools so if anything is too uncomfortable please let your doctor know.

🌼 After your exam your doctor will excuse themselves again to let you dress yourself. Your doctor will return and go over the next steps.

That’s it. You’ve officially completed a wellness exam!

After the examination, your doctor will discuss the findings and the next steps, ensuring you leave with a clear understanding of your health. Regular wellness exams are vital for maintaining women's health, providing preventative care and screenings that can catch potential issues early. Make sure to ask questions about anything unclear to empower yourself toward a healthier lifestyle.
