Hanfu Photoshoot for $70sgd?! Was it worth it? 🫢💸
Hi 🍋’s!
If you’re headed to China and want to try Hanfu, I highly recommend visiting Luoyang 洛阳 - just 45 minutes by high-speed rail from Xi’an!
✨ How it went:
A local recommended this Hanfu studio, so I dropped by on a weekday and was greeted by so many beautiful outfits. After trying on a few, I picked this Tang Dynasty inspired Hanfu.
The MUA was super friendly and suggested several styles since I hadn’t decided what look I wanted. We used the in-house photographer, and even though we were tight on time (just 1.5 hours for two people!), he was so encouraging and guided us through elegant poses without making us feel awkward. He promptly sent us all the pictures including some that he had edited himself 🤣 you could opt for only the unedited pictures but I did it for the plot
Verdict: 10/10 Worth 🥰
Tips if you're going:
🌟 Let them know what look you’re going for - from makeup to outfit details (E.g., lighter headwear, Douyin style makeup)
🌟 Wear nude undergarments for a seamless look
🌟 Be clear with your MUA! I asked to keep my natural brows, but my friend’s got trimmed shorter than expected 😬
If you’re into scenic vibes, Suzhou and Hangzhou offer a naturalistic feel, while Chongqing has more dramatic, misty charm. Personally, wouldn’t recommend Shanghai as it’s often way pricer without the promise of a quality experience. Hence, I would highly recommend Luo Yang because of its breathtaking traditional Chinese architecture!

If you're curious about making the most of your Hanfu experience, here are some additional tips from my personal journey: 1. Bring extra time if possible: Though our shoot lasted 1.5 hours, having more time allows you to relax and try multiple poses. 2. Communicate clearly with your makeup artist: I learned to specify exactly how I wanted my brows styled to avoid surprises. 3. Consider your outfit and undergarments: Nude colors work best to maintain seamlessness under delicate fabrics. 4. Choose your location based on the vibe you’re seeking: Luoyang’s authentic ancient architecture truly enhances the photos, while places like Suzhou and Hangzhou offer natural scenic backdrops. 5. Research packages ahead: Some studios include professional editing, which can elevate your pictures dramatically. Taking these steps enriches your Hanfu photoshoot experience, creating beautiful memories and stunning photos without breaking the bank.
