🕯 Chapter XII: The Man Who Loved Her Wrong in Every Lifetime
From Whispers in the Grave-Bloom Chapel
A novel by Alessandra Graziella Di'Stefano
He was always beautiful.
That was the curse.
In every century,
He arrived with the same storm-colored eyes,
The same jaw that clenched when he lied,
The same mouth that only said I love you
When she was already leaving.
The Raven warned her.
“This one is old,” he said.
“Older than you.
Older than flame.
Older than the first time you swallowed your scream for a kiss.”
But Alessandra knew.
She knew the moment his shadow stretched across her threshold.
Knew by the way her hands trembled
before he even spoke.
His voice—
a wound she remembered
Before she remembered why.
He took her to bed in silence.
Took her mind with music.
Took her joy like a thief who believed
He was doing her a favor.
He loved her wrong,
but with conviction.
The kind of love that bruises in poetry
and starves you between the lines.
In one life, he gave her a ring
dipped in mercury.
In another, he gave her a child
Then a grave.
In this one, he gave her his absence.
And called it kindness.
She tried to forget him with rituals.
Salt. Fire. Moonwater.
But every time she burned his name,
A raven feather fell at her feet.
And when she kissed someone else,
The mirror refused to show her reflection.
Because it knew.
Because he knew.
Because some bonds are not sacred—
They’re shackles masquerading as soulmates.
A ritual of severance for karmic lovers who never learned.
Write every version of his name you’ve ever called him—lover, liar, light.
Bury them beneath your mattress for thirteen nights.
Dream of every version of him.
When you wake, do not speak his name.
Burn the names with lavender and bone ash.
If the smoke rises clean—breathe.
If it turns black—run.
In the end,
she didn’t curse him.
She outloved him.
And that was the first life
She didn’t return to him.
