DRY JANUARY REFLECTION✨

I decided to devote the month of January to zero drinking. I started a new job this month so I figured it to be the perfect time to do it! I drank about 4x a week and it was almost always to the point of intoxication. I have never taken an intentional break from alcohol- so believe me when I say this challenge was intimidating 😅😅 Here’s 5 little things I’ve realized from my journey

1. My energy and sleep improved drastically! My sleep scores from my oura rings were always in the 60s or 70s. I was not getting much deep sleep and I always felt exhausted the next day. Now I have a consistent sleep routine. I go to bed and wake up at the same time. I am more energized because of this and therefore more productive throughout my days!💤

2. Mannn was my face inflamed lol. It has taken the entirety of this month for the inflammation in my body from alcohol to dissipate but for the most part it has. I don’t feel so gross all the time bc of this🫧

3. I can finally notice progress toward my fitness goals. While I was drinking, I was mostly maintaining my figure- a figure I wasn’t satisfied with. Now that alcohol isn’t such a large part of my diet, I can see strides in my fitness goals. I strength train 4x a week and I am noticing more definition this month than I have all of 2025. Truly crazy!💪🏻

4. I’m forced to emotionally regulate rather than using alcohol to “mute” difficult emotions. It was so easy to reach for the bottle when I was stressed out or overwhelmed. Sometimes I just didn’t wanna feel it. I’ve been faced with moments this month where I’m forced to sit in the uncomfortably that is stress and anxiety and revert to other coping mechanisms, like a hot shower or coloring. This one was difficult and still is🕊️

5. Mocktails! Juice! Yummy drinks! All a must!!! I’ve noticed if I pour an olipop in a wine glass or have some sort of drink “fix” I feel a lot better. I’m going through the motions of drinking without actually doing it. I can still clink my glass with everyone else, I can still drink something yummy, it just happens to not be so bad for me lol. I noticed when I quit that I really craved sweet drinks and I think this is because I got my “sweetness” in the alcohol I drank all the time so my body was missing this and struggled going cold turkey. Definitely an interesting observation I didn’t expect… 🧃

Now that the months over and I’ve seen so much change and progress, it’s hard to imagine reverting back to old patterns. I might just see how long I can last into the year without drinking 🤭 all in all, this was a very beneficial challenge for me and my body most definitely needed it!❤️‍🩹

... Read moreTaking on a Dry January challenge can be a truly eye-opening experience, especially if you’re used to regular drinking. Beyond the immediate benefits mentioned, such as better sleep and less inflammation, I found that the most profound change was in my mindset around alcohol and stress management. Before this, alcohol was my go-to to numb stress or unwind after a hectic day. But going dry forced me to confront those feelings head-on, which although uncomfortable at times, helped me develop healthier coping habits. For instance, I started incorporating mindfulness and breathing exercises when anxiety kicked in, rather than reaching for a drink. This shift not only improved my emotional resilience but also made me realize how often I used alcohol as an emotional crutch. Another interesting observation was the craving for sweetness I experienced during the first weeks. I didn’t anticipate how much sugar in alcoholic drinks had been fulfilling that craving, and finding satisfying alternatives like flavored seltzers or natural juice-based mocktails became essential. Pouring a fizzy, colorful beverage in a wine glass helped maintain the social and ritualistic aspect of drinking without the downsides. This little hack can be a game-changer for those wondering how to stick to Dry January while still enjoying festive moments. Finally, the improved physical results were very rewarding. Strength training feels more effective, recovery faster, and there’s a visible difference in muscle definition that motivated me to keep going. With alcohol out of the picture, calorie intake and inflammation dropped, supporting better progress toward fitness goals. Overall, this challenge isn’t just about quitting alcohol for a month—it’s about gaining a deeper understanding of your relationship with drinking and discovering healthier habits that can last beyond January.
