Two of the questions I get on Lemons, the most asked one is "what do I say when I email brands?" “How do I start”

So... let's talk about it!! (P.S i included a few more brand emails down below)

First things first I want you to ask yourself are you trying to be a UGC creator, or are you trying to be an influencer?

UGC CREATORS

Create user-generated content (UGC) like videos, pictures, or posts for fun to share their ideas or creativity with others. They don't post their content to their own accounts, but instead use it for brand accounts or paid social media ads.

Micro-influencers

Have 10,000-100,000 followers and often focus on a specific niche or topic, making them considered industry experts or topic specialists. They may have stronger relationships with their followers than other influencers.

Nano-influencers

Have 1-10,000 followers and may have built a small but engaged following around a specific interest or topic. Their smaller following can make them seem more authentic and relatable, which can help build trust and credibility with their audience.

Influencers

Use their social media following to persuade others to do, buy, or use the same things they do. They can be paid or given free products in exchange for their influence. Influencers can be categorized by their follower count,influencers having 100,000-1,000,000 followers!

First, make sure your social media is active and showcases your best work. Brands want to see consistency and quality, so regularly posting engaging content in your niche is key. Next, you absolutely NEED a killer portfolio or media kit. Think of it as your professional resume for content creation. It should highlight your best videos, photos, and any past collaborations, even if they were unpaid or for smaller brands. Include your audience demographics, engagement rates, and what makes your content unique. This is especially important for small creators looking to land their first brand deal – it demonstrates your professionalism and proves you can deliver high-quality content. Using a solid UGC pitch email template or influencer email template is a great start, but personalization is key! Brands receive tons of emails, and you want yours to stand out. I always make sure to mention something specific I genuinely love about their product. Did I use it? Did it solve a problem for me? This shows genuine product love and that you’ve done your homework. Don't just copy-paste! Also, clearly outline the type of content creation you envision – will it be stunning photos, engaging videos, a carousel post? Be specific and showcase your social media engagement if you're an influencer. Wondering where to find brands to pitch? Beyond the few I listed for inspiration, I often use Pinterest for collaboration ideas! I search for products I genuinely love or brands that align with my niche (maybe you're a 'vegan beauty blogger' like some I follow!). I also look at who other creators in your space are working with. Many brands have a dedicated 'ambassador' or 'collaborate with us' page on their website, which is a goldmine for finding direct contact emails. If not, look for their general PR or marketing email in their website footer or 'contact us' section. For smaller brands or startups, a well-crafted direct message on Instagram can also work as an initial outreach, but always try for email if possible for a more professional touch. Now, about that follow-up! It's so important and often overlooked. If you don't hear back within 2-3 business days after sending your partnership pitch, don't despair! A polite follow-up email template is essential. I usually send a brief message reminding them of my previous email and re-attaching my media kit. It's not about being pushy, but showing your professionalism and continued interest. Sometimes emails get buried, or they just need a gentle nudge. Remember, persistence pays off, especially when you're just starting out as a UGC creator or small influencer! Finally, remember your value! Whether you're aiming for a PR list or a paid collaboration, you're offering valuable content and reach. Clearly articulate what you bring to the table. Even if you're a nano-influencer or a UGC beginner, your authenticity and unique perspective are powerful. Focus on building genuine relationships and showing your passion. Good luck getting those brand deals and turning your content dreams into reality!
