This book gave … Mid 🫤

My dark prince is the final book in the dark prince road trilogy and well… it wasn’t the best. From then FMC to the very confusing story line this book did not live up to my expectations. Now the series is based off of Disney’s princess with the first two based off of Cinderella and Belle (beauty and the beast) this story was following a sleeping beauty troupe with a second chance love story mixed in. Now in the first half it was promising but as the story went on I was basically hate reading tbh. Olli was such a lovable character in the first two books I really had high hopes for his story but this story just felt like a Frankenstein of troupes and honestly reminded me of a “final offer” by Lauren Asher accept that book was beautifully written. Idk this is the first book I was truly disappointed by I didn’t finish this book believing in love like I did with the first two 🥺

Did you read this book what are your thoughts 💭?

... Read moreIf you've followed the Dark Prince Road trilogy, you might have had high expectations for this finale, especially given how charming the first two books were. Inspired by Disney princess tales, the series creatively reimagines beloved stories, which naturally builds excitement and anticipation for readers. However, it’s not uncommon for final books in trilogies to struggle with balancing character development and plot resolution. My Dark Prince attempts to blend a classic Sleeping Beauty trope with a second chance romance, which can be very appealing when done well. Unfortunately, as noted, the storyline becomes confusing and inconsistent as it progresses. Readers often appreciate a clear, cohesive narrative arc, especially in romance novels where emotional investment in characters is crucial. When a story feels like a patchwork of tropes without a smooth flow, it can lead to frustration. Olli, a previously beloved character, seemed to lose the charm that made him stand out in earlier books. This can happen when authors try to juggle many themes or shift tone between installments. Comparing this book to Lauren Asher’s "Final Offer," which was praised for beautiful writing, highlights how integral style and voice are to sustaining reader engagement. For fans of fairy tale retellings and romance series, it’s helpful to approach each book with an open mind, recognizing that not every installment may meet expectations. It can be valuable to look at reviews and discussions in reading communities like #darkprinceroad and #booktok to gather different perspectives. In the end, while My Dark Prince didn’t resonate with all readers, the trilogy's earlier books remain beloved for their creativity and emotional depth. Sharing honest opinions, whether positive or critical, enriches the reading community and helps future readers decide what's right for them. If you’ve read this book, your thoughts could provide insight and balance to the conversation about how fairy tale tropes can be reinterpreted in modern romance novels.
