... Read moreLife is full of movement and unexpected turns, isn't it? Sometimes, these changes are exciting, like starting a new chapter or moving to a different place. Other times, they can feel daunting, leaving us wondering about the future. I've often felt this, especially when facing significant transitions that shake up my routine and comfort zone. It's in these moments that I cling to the timeless truths found in the Bible, and recently, Hebrews 11:13 has been a profound source of strength.
This verse, "These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth," truly resonates with me. It speaks to a deep trust in God’s plan, even when we can’t see the whole picture. For me, it brings to mind a recent big change – having to move and starting fresh. While it was a decision made by my family, it meant navigating a lot of unknowns, new surroundings, and stepping completely out of what was familiar. But even in the midst of that big change, I realized God wasn't surprised by any of it. He’s always been in the business of guiding people through transitions, from Adam and Eve leaving Eden to Noah building the ark, or Abram embarking on a journey to an unknown land.
What an amazing thought: God has been faithful throughout history, and He continues to be faithful in our personal stories today. Hebrews 11:13 reminds us that the heroes of faith lived with an eternal perspective. They understood they were just "foreigners and temporary residents on the earth." This doesn't mean we don't care about our lives here, but rather that our ultimate hope and home are with God. This perspective completely shifts how I view challenges and uncertainties. It helps me to embrace vulnerability, knowing that my security isn't in my circumstances, but in an unchanging God.
Living by faith, like those mentioned in Hebrews 11, means trusting God’s promises even when we only "see them from a distance." We may not have all the answers right now, or fully understand why certain things are happening, but we can hold onto the assurance that God has a perfect future planned for us. He promises that our King is coming back one day. Until then, we are called to live with open hands, ready to go where He leads and stay where He guides. This isn't always easy, but knowing He goes with us and will never leave us brings an incredible peace. He is truly in every detail of our story.
So, whether you're in the midst of a big move, a career change, or just navigating the daily ups and downs, remember the powerful message of Hebrews 11:13. It’s an uplifting reminder to view God the same way the ancients did – remembering His faithfulness in the past and trusting His promises for the future. Let's live fully, knowing that He is always present, always guiding, and always faithful.
