Movie recommendation 📷

Hey y’all! ✨

Stopping by to tell you about another favorite movie of mine. This one is monster-in-law starring Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda and Wanda Skyes. This genre is a bit different than my love for thrillers. I would say I tend to normally lean towards psychological mysteries/thrillers but I have a big love for rom coms. This movie def fits the bill of a rom com and has plenty of scenes you will laugh at. I could watch this movie every week if I had to.

The movie follows a woman who meets the love of her life, but has to go through lots of trials to get to the altar due to her fiancées mother. Her soon to be mother in law has always been close to her son and fears she’ll lose their bond after he marries. Throughout the engagement her soon to be mother in law becomes a monster in law!

Do you like romantic comedies too? What’s your favorite? Lmk in the comments 💓

... Read moreIt's funny because when I first saw the movie poster back in 2005, featuring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, I knew it would be a clash of titans! This film, directed by Robert Luketic, really delivers on the promise of hilarious situations. At just 1 hour and 37 minutes, it's the perfect length for a cozy night in, rated TVPG so it's generally family-friendly fun. What truly makes 'Monster-in-Law' shine as a romantic comedy isn't just the star power, but the incredible dynamic between J.Lo's character, Charlie, and Jane Fonda's Viola. Viola, a fiercely protective mother, feels threatened by Charlie, her son Kevin's (played charmingly by Michael Vartan) fiancée. Their rivalry isn't just petty squabbles; it escalates into full-blown warfare with strategic sabotage attempts that are genuinely laugh-out-loud. Jane Fonda absolutely steals the show with her over-the-top antics, and J.Lo holds her own as the sweet, yet determined, future daughter-in-law. And let's not forget Wanda Sykes, who brings her signature comedic timing as Viola's assistant, Ruby – she adds so much to the humor! The film perfectly captures that universal fear of meeting your partner's family, especially when one parent is reluctant to let go. It takes that relatable anxiety and blows it up into an exaggerated, yet heartwarming, story about two women eventually finding a way to understand each other, even if it involves a few drastic measures first! It's a classic example of a Comedy and Romance movie that leaves you feeling good. If you, like me, adore 'Monster-in-Law' and are always on the hunt for movies with similar vibes, here are a few other rom-coms that feature great cast chemistry and perhaps a touch of family-related chaos: The Proposal (2009): Another fantastic rom-com starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, where a fake engagement leads to real feelings, and of course, a crazy family dynamic in Alaska. It has that same blend of humor and heart. My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002): If you love the family interference aspect, this one is a must-see! It's about a Greek-American woman who falls for a non-Greek man, and the hilarious culture clash that ensues when their families meet. Pure joy! Meet the Parents (2000): While more overtly comedic and less purely romantic, this film perfectly nails the awkwardness and terror of meeting your prospective in-laws, especially when one (Robert De Niro!) is particularly intimidating. If you appreciate the "monster-in-law" element, you'll definitely get a kick out of this one. These movies, much like 'Monster-in-Law,' offer charming leads, witty dialogue, and a feel-good story that makes them perfect for repeat viewing. So next time you're looking for a good laugh with a side of romance, you know what to watch!
