Goodbye June and Hello July!

Goodbye June, hello July! Can you believe how quickly summer is flying by? For me, the end of June always marks the official start of prime paddleboarding season. There’s just something about July’s warmth and the longer days that makes getting out on the water irresistible. I know I'm not alone in counting down the days until I can properly soak up the sun from atop my board! This year, I'm especially excited because my trusty blue and white inflatable paddleboard is all prepped and ready for action. Before I head out for my first summer paddle, I always give my inflatable board a thorough once-over. I use my trusted pump to inflate it to the recommended PSI – it's surprising how much difference the right pressure makes for stability. I check for any tiny leaks (though with proper storage, I rarely find any!). It's also a good idea to inspect your paddle, leash, and PFD (personal flotation device) to make sure everything is in top condition. Next, let's talk about what to bring. July sun can be intense, so sunscreen is non-negotiable! I also pack plenty of water, a hat, and sunglasses. For my feet, I usually opt for simple black flip-flops or water shoes that I can easily slip off once I'm on the board. A waterproof dry bag is a lifesaver for my phone, keys, and a small snack. Where to paddle? July is fantastic for calm lakes and slow-moving rivers. The water temperature is usually perfect for a refreshing dip if you decide to take a swim. I love finding quiet coves where I can just drift and enjoy the serenity. The first paddle of the summer always feels like a mini-vacation, a chance to reconnect with nature and just breathe.
