Why do string of pearls hate me?
Seriously they are so beautiful but I cannot keep them alive. These were in a bright window so receiving plenty of indirect sunlight. I’m watering properly and I’m down to one pearl I don’t even want to attempt another bc I’m afraid it will meet the same fate as the rest! PS I watered right after I took this picture. 😩 #help #plants #stringofpearls #plant #indoorplant
From my experience, growing String of Pearls (Senecio rowleyanus) can be challenging, especially if you're new to succulents. One of the main reasons these charming plants struggle is overwatering. Despite your efforts to water properly, even a little excess moisture can lead to root rot, which is deadly for these pearls. The key is to let the soil dry out completely between waterings and use a well-draining succulent mix. Lighting is another important factor. While String of Pearls enjoys bright indirect light, too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, and too little light can cause weak, leggy growth leading to dropped pearls. A spot near a south or east-facing window with filtered light usually works best. Humidity and temperature also affect their health. They prefer dry air and temperatures between 70°F and 80°F during the day, avoiding chilly conditions below 50°F. If your home is very humid, ensure good airflow to prevent fungal issues. Lastly, consider repotting your plant if it's been in the same soil for a long time. Fresh, well-draining soil can rejuvenate it. I've found that trimming dead or damaged vines encourages new growth and helps the plant focus energy on healthy leaves. Using a rooting hormone and propagating healthy vines can also help you grow new plants successfully without fear of loss. Remember, String of Pearls requires patience and attentive care, but once you find the right balance, they can be a stunning, low-maintenance addition to your indoor plant collection.
