Founded in the 1600s by Africans who escaped enslavement, Palenque became the first free Black town in the Americas — a safe haven where our ancestors built their own systems of law, education, and protection long before the world caught up.
Walking these streets hit different. You can feel the history pulsing through the drums, see it in the colors of the dresses, and hear it in the Palenquero language — a living blend of African tongues, Spanish, and soul. 🖤
I stood where freedom was fought for and claimed, surrounded by the descendants who still dance in the rhythm of resilience. This isn’t just a tourist stop — it’s a spiritual reminder that we come from strength, brilliance, and legacy.
