The hardest part of healing

For years, they called me strong.

The moment I stopped carrying everyone else’s responsibilities, emotions, and problems…

Some started calling me selfish.

Healing has taught me that not everyone will celebrate your boundaries. Some people benefited from your lack of them.

You are not selfish for saying no.

You are not difficult for having limits.

You are not wrong for choosing yourself.

Some people aren’t reacting to your healing.

They’re reacting to losing access to the version of you that abandoned herself to keep everyone else comfortable.

The woman who carried everyone else is exhausted.

The woman she’s becoming is finally free.

❤️ If this resonates, drop a “YOU MATTER” in the comments.

... Read moreHealing is often a challenging and deeply personal journey. From my own experience, one of the most difficult aspects is confronting the reactions of people around you when you start to prioritize your own well-being. When you begin to say no and establish clear boundaries, it shakes the dynamics you've long accepted. I remember once feeling overwhelmed by the expectations of always being the strong one—the person everyone turned to for support, often at the expense of my own needs. It’s important to recognize that setting limits isn't about being selfish; it's about preserving your mental and emotional health. Our society often glorifies overfunctioning, especially in women over 40, who may carry the additional pressures of caregiving and people-pleasing. Through healing, you learn that these roles can be relinquished for your own growth. ‘YOU'RE HEALING’ is a powerful reminder that this process is ongoing and valid, even if others don’t understand or support it. People’s discomfort isn’t always a reflection of your choices but a reaction to losing access to the version of you that was always available, regardless of personal cost. I found that by embracing my healing journey, I reclaimed my energy, reduced exhaustion, and started living more authentically. People-pleasing recovery involves re-learning how to communicate your needs clearly and confidently, which can inspire others to respect your boundaries. It’s not easy, but the freedom and self-love gained are worth every step. If you’re on this path, remember: you are not wrong for choosing yourself, and you matter. Sharing your experiences can also help others feel less alone in their healing journeys.
